Editorial board- The choice of production technologies can decisively influence the design of a new product. The “Fiat Tipo” (160) is the clear demonstration of this theory. Presented in dealerships in early 1988, released from European lists in 1995, even if it then continued to be sold in South America, the Turin medium-small car was, according to experts, a car so designed and built in order to be produced with those specific robotic technologies Delta International Recruitment Agency In Pakistan.

The line characterized by a modern, rather marked cut, and the individual elements, such as the doors and wraparound bonnets, were proof of the construction of complex and pre-assembled components in production “islands” to then be joined together on the final assembly line. To be clear, contrary to what happened in previous decades, each sub-group: the gearbox and differential motor unit, the rear axle with suspensions, the individual doors complete with accessories, paneling and already painted, the dashboard and much more, it was assembled and tested in highly automated production “islands”. Only afterwards could these elements be bolted or screwed to the final body, with technologies that made extensive use of robotics.

Another element that characterized the design of the “Fiat Tipo” was the decision to build this car on a mechanical and chassis basis shared with numerous other cars of the “Fiat Group”. The goal was to get to save in design and production by reducing the individual components and at the same time increasing the quantity of the same with all the advantages of economies of scale. Another consequence of having such a modular platform was that of allowing the reduction of time in the creation of cars technologically related to the “Tipo”, but absolutely different in image and commercial target.

It is no secret that the “Fiat Tempra, Bravo / a, Marea and Coupé”, the “Lancia Delta 836 and Dedra”, the “Alfa Romeo 145/146, 155 and GTV / Spider 916” adopted the same platform and the same suspensions of the “Type”. In the case of the “Tempra”, however, the door rotation was also shared, while in the case of the “Alfa 916” the rear axle was more sophisticated than that of the “Tipo”.

In all of this, the ability to create a large engine compartment, in which 4-cylinder in-line or V6 engines could be housed, and a floor, on which front-wheel drive or permanent all-wheel drive could coexist, was fundamental. It was an example of cutting-edge design for the time but, to date, absolutely in line with most modern builders.

In 1993 a face lifting arrived, which modified various details, among which, the most evident, were the headlights and the newly designed radiator grille. The occasion was used to equip the “Tipo” with new accessories for passive safety, such as shatterproof bars in the doors, the collapsible steering wheel, the driving airbag and the pre-tensionable front seat belts. These last two accessories were available on request on most versions. Also on the occasion of this update the 3-door version debuted until then absent from the price lists.

Today, more than 30 years after its launch, the “Tipo” remains one of the most important models in the history of the Turin group in recent decades, so much so that its name has been reused to baptize a new car, even if it is totally

different from its ancestor.
